‘Bobby’ - Self-Devised Project
My biggest regret in life is never going to a One Direction concert.
As a spotty 14-year-old I desperately didn’t want to be associated with the ‘crazy fangirls’ who gleefully expressed their love and admiration for their interests. And because of this, I feel that I missed out on a lot of potential for fun, friendships, and JOY.
So for my Final Year ‘Self-Devised Project’ (AKA a dissertation with much better font choices and a final product to go alongside) I wanted to tackle this issue of teenage girls feeling ashamed for their interests.
12,000ish words, a whole lot of CSS code, and many Adobe crashes later, I created ‘Bobby’, a social categorisation platform for women to collect, share, and celebrate the wide, weird and wonderful array of their interests.
Alongside the site, I also created an integrated marketing campaign including socials, Out-Of-Home paraphernalia and visuals, a zine, and a pseudo-religious flyer (people always say fangirls ‘worship’ their idols, so I ran with it!)
